Iftikhar Chaudhri is the founder and CEO of Bright Horizon Trust. He has spent more than a decade in public and community service in Runnymede, and his work has been recognised in the UK and abroad.

In 2012 he became the first Muslim councillor ever elected to Runnymede Borough Council, and he went on to serve as the borough’s first Mayor from an ethnic minority background. As Mayor he organised the Charity Walk for Peace, the largest mayoral fundraising event in the council’s history, which raised over £1 million and brought together more than 4,500 people.

During the Covid pandemic he led the emergency foodbank in Runnymede, and in 2021 he was appointed a Governor of Ashford and St Peter’s hospital trust. His honours include the British Citizen Award Medal of Honour, presented in Parliament, the Asian Achievers Award, and the Key to the City of Herndon, Virginia. In 2025 he was appointed Goodwill Ambassador for the British Citizen Awards and the Asian Achievers Awards.

Key Achievements

2012

  • Elected as the first ever Muslim councillor on Runnymede Borough Council.
  • Appointed Deputy Chairman of Fundraising and Membership.

2015

  • Appointed Deputy Chairman of Environment and Sustainability.

2016

  • Elected as the first ever ethnic Mayor of Runnymede Borough Council.

2017

  • Elected as the first ever ethnic Mayor of Runnymede.

2018

  • Organised the largest ever mayoral fundraising event in the history of the council. The Charity Walk for Peace raised over £1 million and was attended by over 4,500 people, including the Royal Marines, MPs, Lord Lieutenants, mayors and hundreds of charities.
  • Presented with the Key to the City of Herndon, Virginia, USA, for exceptional charitable and community service, at a ceremony in Virginia.

2019

  • Appointed Chairman of Community Services.

2020

  • Led the Covid emergency foodbank in Runnymede.

2021

  • Awarded the Covid Star for service.
  • Appointed Governor of Ashford and St Peter’s hospital trust.

2022

  • Awarded the prestigious British Citizen Award Medal of Honour for outstanding community service, in Parliament.

2024

  • Awarded the Asian Achievers Award for outstanding public and community service.
  • Passed the Parliamentary Assessment Board and became a Prospective Parliamentary Candidate.

2025
